The story book idea
The story book idea was inspired by the imaginary travels of our pet whippet.
It was always our intention to write a book about George and his escapades. As a puppy he was quite a wayward, headstrong dog, but that’s what we loved about him. A wellspring of stories abounded, tales we would delight in telling our children. These soon came to symbolise the spirit behind WhippetGrey.
The search for enchanting objects
We grew up with a love of beautiful things and far-flung places. Our families, having lived in cultures as diverse as the West Indies, Arabia, America and India, acquired many interesting and lovely things; exquisite objects all with stories to tell.
Our shared passion for travel and unusual artefacts is the inspiration behind WhippetGrey. It can be the finest thread of an enchanting story that leads us to a rare or interesting find. When we collect for ourselves, we look for quality and authenticity. It requires a certain amount of tenacity and a sense of adventure to find something different.

meet artists, craftsmen and women alike and develop a deeper understanding of their expertise. We believe these traditional skills should be nurtured and supported.
Influenced by 20th century art, in particular Matisse, Picasso and Warhol, we are attracted to pieces that have an artistic quality. We admire objects with simple, expressive lines, which are supremely well made from raw materials.
Whether fresh and contemporary in feel or more subtle and sober in look, for us an object must be meaningful and timeless.
The catalogue
With our backgrounds in art history, design and marketing, we felt we had the expertise to produce a more unusual catalogue.
Every catalogue cover is a commissioned illustration by Christopher Corr, a most gifted artist whom we have known for many years. The front cover depicts a different destination with every issue. Small vignettes of a fine lady and her companion, the whippet, appear on the back and inside cover.
The catalogue conveys the qualities we hold dear; warm and tactile to the touch with an artistic dimension, beautiful photography and individuality.
